How do you buy a staircase on the sims 3?

you go on build mode and click on th small porch steps

First you delete your roof, then you can get stairs in the Build Mode, and after that put the stairs somewhere on the 1st floor and build a floor on the second floor.

To find stairs you go to buil/buy mode, then when the house apppears you go click on the steps and the choices will some up

well first go to build mode, click on the stairs then choose the tab underneath and you have stairs!

after you made your basement go down a level until you are viewing the actual basement, from there, add stairs as you usually would in a normal room :)

You need the generations expansion pack. If you have it then go to where you would usually buy stairs and you should see under stairs a spiral staircase.
