on HeartGold and SoulSilver you need to defeat all gyms (kanto and Jhoto) and you need to battle and defeat red (you dont need to capture moltres).
on Red and Blue you get to choose one as your starter and on Yellow you get them seperatly throughout the game.
on LeafGreen and FireRed you do the same thing as Red and Blue.
and on Gold Silver and Crystal, I think you do the same as on HeartGold and SoulSilver.

∙ 14y agoFirst, you have to buy a GameLink cable via a GameStop or Bestbuy. Then, attatch it your GameBoy and hook it up to another gameboy with either Red, BLue or Yellow. Then trade Bulbasaur from Red, Blue, or Yellow and you will have him.

∙ 12y agoFirst,you can only get bulbasaur in the house near the Pokemon center in cerulean city.Second, the boy near the nugget bridge there you can get charmander.Third, first defeat the gym leader in vermilion city and then talk to the officer jenny outside th gym.
