You can't give birth in the first episode (Amethyst Mountains) but in the second episode (Slough Creek) you have to give birth to pups and look after them eg. feed them, protect them and keep them healthy till they are old enough to hunt with you.

No. When you get to the mission when you have pups they are already 6 weeks old and remain that age. This is due to limited funding and since 6 weeks old is the average age when wolf pups in the wild emerge from the den.
