Choose a plant for your planting zone. Plant it the proper time of year for that plant. Plant it in the right lighting (full sun, partial sun, shade, etc.....). Make sure it has the proper drainage (lots for cactus, little for bog plants). Plant the plant & water it. Protect it from frost if necessary.
