How do you index a book?

It makes searching for a name or a topic easier. You won't have to look through the entire book trying to find a specific person or subject: it tells you on what page (or pages) the author mentions it.

Well, You have 2 options :

1. Hire a professional to create the book index for you, but this is expensive (About $3 per page).

2. Create the book index yourself, and if you did so then to make the job easy for you, you would better use a software to help ease your job. Some writing software come with an indexing feature like Microsoft Office & Adobe InDesign but i have had some complexities when i tried using the indexing feature in them. I think they deal with the book index as a secondary thing, so they don't give it good care in the program. Another software i have tried to help me create my books' indexes is PDF Index Generator. I have created a couple of indexes with it now, and things went smooth.
