Remove old thermostat. Install new thermostat.

It is not hard if you have the proper tools. Drain the radiator and remove the upper hose at the engine. Remove the thermostat housing and install the thermostat. Clean the surfaces and install the new thermostat.
1. Drain the cooling system.2. Remove the lower radiator hose from thermostat outlet.3. Remove the thermostat outlet bolts and outlet. Remove the thermostat.4. Clean the mating surfaces of the radiator outlet and the radiator outlet pipe.To install:1. Install the thermostat.2. Install the thermostat outlet and bolts.3. Install the coolant outlet attaching bolts and tighten the thermostat outlet bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).4. Install the lower radiator hose to thermostat outlet.5. Fill the cooling system.6. Inspect for leaks.
There is a thermostat mounted to the radiator (left side); you merely unscrew it after disconnecting the electrical plug. Screw the new one in (along with a new washer) and reconnect the plug. To replace the thermostat inside the water pump: Drain the coolant; remove the lower radiator hose flange from the water pump housing; pull the thermostat out; install new t-stat and seal; reinstall the flange; fill system with coolant/anti-freeze.
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper hose at the engine end. Remove the 2 bolts in the thermostat housing and remove the thermostat. Clean both surfaces and install the thermostat "O" ring. Install the thermostat ,housing and 2 retaining bolts. Install the upper hose and fill the coolant recovery tank.jd
To install a thermostat on a 1987 Nissan 300ZX, remove the two nuts and one bolt on the lower water neck. Slip off the old thermostat and use a gasket sealant to secure the new thermostat.
