either a duck "house" with a closed door at night or a duck pen that is closed up at night. If you build a pen, make sure to bury the chicken wire at least 6 inches underground in addition to making it 4-5 feet above ground. Burying it will prevent raccoon invasion into the pen. I built a duck house inside my duck pen, and they use it to stay out of the wind at night. There are many pictures on backyard chickens.com I let mine free roam on the property during the daylight hours. They stay in the grassy areas, and do not wander into the forest.

A blow up swan. Swans are natural enimes of ducks. We found solar blinking xmas lights work a treat to keep them off our jetty at night. Even look good. Tried everything, owls, CD's, tape but this is the only thing that's worked for more than a week.
