Is your baby ferret okay?

Baby ferrets have been in a very stressful situation being taken away from their mother and then transported to a pet store with a lot of new noises and smells. A new pet baby ferret needs to have a quiet dark secure place to sleep with minimal disturbances for about a week. Your ferret will sleep a lot as a baby. Make sure he is eating the same food and might need it moistened with little water at first, with food and water available at all times.

Is it okay to feed your ferret baby food?

You can feed your ferret Gerbers second stage chicken baby food, it's even recommended for sick ferrets or ferrets with stomach problems (ulcers) as it's easier on their stomachs. But I wouldn't recommend feeding them any kind of baby food with vegetables, fruits or sugars in them, only the chicken.

What should you do if your new ferret is not eating anything?

Ferrets imprint on food, meaning whatever they are fed for the first six months, they will only recognize that as food. Feed your ferret the same food it has been eating. Any changes in your ferrets food must be gradual to avoid upset stomach. If it is a baby ferret, try mixing dry food with a little water. Otherwise, if you cannot get your ferret to eat, you need to contact a veterinarian as soon as possible to rule out any illness.

Should you give your ferret wet food?

It's not advisable to give a ferret wet food. A high quality dry ferret food is better to keep their teeth clean. Some baby ferrets purchased from pet stores might not be old enough to handle dry food, so offer some moistened dry food refer to related question below for advise on feeding ferrets

Meow Mix for cats is not an appropriate diet for a ferret. Feed your ferret a high quality ferret food or if not available, a high quality kitten food (not cat food) such as Iams or Eukanuba kitten food. DUH! ITS CALLED MEOW MIX NOT FERRET MIX! :)

What does a twelve week old ferret eat?

What does it mean when a ferret does not like treats?

Because the ferret does not recognize it as food. Ferrets are known to be picky eaters, because they imprint on their food at a young age. This means that when a new food or treat is introduced the ferret actually has no idea that it is food. Try mixing it with their food or rubbing a small amount on the ferret's gums.
