Melanoma can be found wherever there are melanocytes. These make the pigment melanin. They look like moles. There are several indications. There is a good way to remember them:

A: asymmetry

B: borders (irregular)

C: color (various, in one)

D: diameter (size eraser on your pencil)

E: evolving (growing)

The first indication of melanoma is the appearance of a spot on the skin. This could be a new spot, or a spot or mole that was always present which has changed in some way.

Melanoma is malignant changes in a mole. Things to look out for is change in size and color, scaling or crusting, itching and ulcerating of any pigmented lesion in the skin.
