Age- we can guess the age by counting rings on the belly scales, but it is only a guess. You can use size charts, but they don't help a lot either.

Pick it up and if it moves it is alive.

Other Way to Tell If Your Red Eared Slider has passed away :
if you're turtle is floating ( not swimming ) and doesn't start to move even if you shake the water that means it has passed away.
(From ehow)
Well, turtles don't really get sad or happy as far as we can tell. If your turtle is way less active than it normally is, or isn't eating its food, then it might be cold or sick. Check his tank and basking area temperatures, and if those are fine, then take it to a vet with a reptile specialist. Keep in mind as turtles mature, they typically become gradually less and less active.
well usually the red on their ears turners pink
1f its doing nothing all daya and the day after that
because it turns bright blue
I really don't know. All I can tell you is that we thought ours had escaped for about two weeks and then found that he hadn't. He is still alive but is VERY close to death. If you have a Red Eared Slider that is close to starvation, you can shred some carrots and then wet them and then give them to him/her. They will also eat dead insects of alive ones. I gave mine a dead grub...at least I think it was dead... I hope this helped. Good luck with your turtle!
it means you will be dead within 10 hours and should be taken to the vet as soon a possible
