You may have a hymen, which is tissue that surrounds the vaginal opening - this can wear away or stretch over time, also as a result of vaginal penetration such as via using tampons or menstrual cups, masturbation, sexual activity with a partner, etc. The hymen can tear but typically this will usually only occur if penetration is rough or forced, for the most part the hymen doesn't cover much of the vaginal opening and is flexible so can stretch to accommodate vaginal penetration.

If you believe your hymen has been torn and want to check then you can simply look at your hymen yourself - it's not always easy to see tearing, but you may notice tags of tissue or tears rather than a more complete ring of tissue.
