To gain familiarity with the notes, it is best to practice scales daily. A combination of having the tablature in front of you and a piece of sheet music with scales on it is useful for this. I suggest learning C first if you want to play the soprano or tenor recorders, or F if you are learning the alto or bass. From there, it is best to move around the circle of fifths in both directions (that is, for the soprano, learning G and F next and then D and Bb, etc).
