How do you lose armor abilities in morrowind?

I'm sorry if my assumption is wrong, but I'm going to assume that you picked up the sword Fury and it screwed you over. I had the same problem, and I found something that let me get all my armor skills back. NOTE THAT I DID NOT THINK OF THIS GLITCH.

You're going to need a Chitin Gauntlet, a Nordic Claymore, a Soul Gem with a soul in it (it doesn't have to be of great quality, but this helps) and you need a Grand Soul Gem with a Golden Saint soul in it, so that you can enchant items with a Constant Effect. Now what you need to do is enchant the Chitin Gauntlet with the following effects:

Drain Unarmored 20 to 20 points

Drain Light Armor 20 to 20 points

Drain Heavy Armor 20 to 20 points

Drain Medium Armor 20 to 20 points

For the gauntlet enchantment, use the smaller soul gem, not the one with the Golden Saint soul in it. Now you need to enchant the sword. Enchant it so that it has a Constant Effect and Enchant it with a Bound Cuirass spell.

Now that you have everything enchanted, get another weapon in your inventory. Make sure you only have two weapons in your inventory total. Now, equip the Nordic Claymore. Quickly press the L trigger, the R trigger and the X button all at the same time, and hold the buttons down. The game will slow down and it will sound like you're changing weapons. If these things don't happen, you're doing it wrong and you need to try this step again.

Now since you held L, R and X all at the same time your armor stats should be all the way back up, or written in white. If they're written in white your stats have been fortified, in this case permanently. If you want to play the game fairly, use the enchanted Chitin Gauntlet to chunk your armor skills back down until they're written in yellow, which means they're back where they're supposed to be at. I assumed you were playing this on Xbox because on the PC there is a patch that fixes the whole Fury sword problem.

If you really don't feel like doing everything I just said, just go out and buy Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition. With the Game of the Year Edition you can still play the game you had in Morrowind, but the Fury sword problem is fixed. If you manage to get the GoTY Edition, just go to an Imperial Cult Altar and click the button that says Restore Skills. This should fix your problem.

The best way to do it is find and equip the sword Fury over and over again.

The Fury sword damages all of your armor skills until they reach 0. The effects of this are permanent, so make sure you know how to glitch it all back when you need to.

To find the Fury sword you need to go Koguruhn (I think I spelled it wrong, but I know that spelling's really close). You can find Koguruhn extremely easily if you do the main quest. Sul-Mattul of the Urshilaku Tribe will tell you where it is, but can't mark it on your map, due to the fact that many people have forgotten it exists.

So, what if you don't have the directions of Sul-Mattul? Koguruhn is still easy to find. Just go to Mar Gaan and go North- North East from there. You should stumble upon it eventually. It has mountains all around it, except for in one small area where you can get in if you can't levitate (which you should get, because Bethesda LOVES to use the Levitate spell all throughout the game). Now just enter the main part of Koguruhn and explore a little. The Fury sword is behind a door with a level 20 lock on it. It's on a dead adventurer who's also wearing a glass cuirass. Near this door are two other doors with the same lock level. You can loot all the other dead adventurers behind the other door for some good money-making weapons and armor for when you return to civilization.
