∙ 9y agoFirst, you need to know the number in correct international format, beginning with the telephone country code, which is a one-, two-, or three-digit number, never beginning with zero. It is customary to write the telephone country code with a plus sign in front; for example, North America (USA, Canada, etc.) is +1, the UK is +44, and Fiji is +679.
In many countries, you must drop the trunk prefix 0 from the beginning of the telephone number in domestic format, to put it into international format. For example, London's area code 020 becomes +44 20. However, Italy and a few other countries are exceptions to this rule. For example, Rome's area code 06 becomes +39 06, not +39 6.
All GSM mobile phones and most other mobile phones allow you to dial all numbers in international format. Just dial the number beginning with the plus symbol. (Different models of mobile phone have different procedures for entering the plus symbol, but pressing and holding the 0 key is a common method.) For example, +44 20 7496 0123 or +1 212 555 0123 (The spaces are added for visual clarity, but are not necessary.)
For the few mobile phones that do not support dialing the plus symbol, replace it with the appropriate international access prefix for the country you are currently located in. The prefix you need is determined by your current location, not by your home country or by the country you are calling. The most common prefix is 00, but many countries use other prefixes.
