There are four different types of Greek columns. They are called: Ionic, Doric, Corinthian. The Doric is just a tall plain pillar with a squared top and bottom. The Ionic is a fancier type of Doric, but instead of a squared top, it has spiraled corners. Lastly, the Corinthian is WAY fancier than any other. It has pedal like shapes all around it.
Greek columns are made of stone and plaster, or whatever materials are on hand. They are large and imposing, mostly for decoration.

As you know, the Romans used the three main Greek columns, the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian, but they also developed their own style which is the Composite. It is, as it's name implies, a combination of the Corinthian style with the addition of purely roman embellishments. The Romans also developed the Tuscan style of column which was a strictly practical or utilitarian style of column.
The column is one of the most distinctive architectural structures. By including them in your home, you can give your house a flavor that is somewhat unique. Fiberglass columns are a great choice because they are durable and inexpensive. There are several different types of fiberglass columns to choose from. The decision that you make will have a strong effect on the feel of a room in your home. There are two basic types of columns: those inspired by Greek architecture and those inspired by Roman architecture. Among the Greek style fiberglass columns, there are three types. They are known as the Doric, Corinthian, and Ionic styles. Greek columns are usually fluted, meaning that they have channels carved into the main rod of the column. Traditionally speaking, their are twenty-four channels on each column, although this may be changed depending on taste. The Doric column is the oldest and least complicated style of Greek column. The top of the column is saucer shaped. It has a larger width than the rest of the fiberglass column, and it then meets with a box shape on the top. The box is then connected to whatever structure the column is supporting. In contrast to the Doric column, the Corinthian column is the most elegantly decorated and complex type of Greek column. It is also the skinniest. Leaves are carved into the top of the column. Fiberglass columns made in this style are more likely to be expensive, but they are much nicer to look at.Ionic columns, the third type of Greek influenced column, features a carved scroll in the top of the column that curls outward toward the sides. In addition to these three Greek styles, there are two more styles of fiberglass columns. These are influenced by the Romans. The first style is called the Tuscan column. It is similar to the Doric, but it is not fluted and it has no base. This is a good choice for a more minimalist style. The second type is called the composite column. Fiberglass columns made in this way combine characteristics of the Ionic and the Corinthian column.Fiberglass columns are a great way to decorate your home in a way that looks ornate but doesn’t push your budget.
