The sign of the cross is a reminder of our baptismal promise. It is made with the first two fingers and thumb pursed together (as in the trinity). The motion and words are as follow:
Starting at the forehead, "In the name of the Father";
then moving to the chest, "and of the Son";
then sweep from left shoulder to right shoulder, "and of the Holy Spirit".
