Well you definatly need to get your trunk open before you can see whats going on with the top. you will need to make sure that the partition cover in the trunk is pulled forward and latched into the switch, the soft top will not open if that is not latched.

Open trunk , look inside on left hand set where trunk partioner hook up is engaged , there is a limit switch in it , the first time this happened i stuffed my son in the trunk to pres that button & open the top ! You may have a Mercedes and the trunk warning light has been known to stay on where you can't put the top down. Try opening the trunk and slamming it shut. The problem may be the pneumatic supply pump (PSE) which is supposed to pull the trunk all the way down.

It is inside the glove box. Open the glove box and on the left-top side there is a black button that opens the trunk. All you have to do is push the button. I am not sure but in white markings it might say trunk release or has a small diagram of a trunk open or opening.

Have you tried taking out the top half of the back seat to gain access to the trunk? If you can get into it you may be able to operate the release from inside.
