Open Windows Media Player. At the top, on the left hand side there should be a horizontal list of options: File, View, Play, Tools and Help. Click on Tools. This will open a little menu. Go down and click on Options. This will pull up a new window with a bunch of tabs. Click on File Types. This window lets you choose what you would like to use Windows Media Player as the default player for. Select the types of files you want to use Windows Media to be the default player on. Click Apply and then click OK and you're done. Windows Media Player is now your default media player.

Yes you can, just make sure you have a media player on you laptop such as Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player. After that, just put the disk into the disk drive, and it should automatically play. If not, just right click the disk, and choose "Open with..." and select your media player.

Windows Media Player only plays the videos. You can only create/edit video in Windows Movie Maker.
