Open Windows Media Player. At the top, on the left hand side there should be a horizontal list of options: File, View, Play, Tools and Help. Click on Tools. This will open a little menu. Go down and click on Options. This will pull up a new window with a bunch of tabs. Click on File Types. This window lets you choose what you would like to use Windows Media Player as the default player for. Select the types of files you want to use Windows Media to be the default player on. Click Apply and then click OK and you're done. Windows Media Player is now your default media player.

There are multiple ways to set KMPlayer to be the default player. The first way is to select all the file formats you want it to open during the installation process. Another method is to right click on the file and select choose default program. Once you highlight the KMPlayer program, check the box so that it is always used for that kind of file and click OK.
