'docx' files relate to the 'Microsoft Office Word 2007' program, and all versions since. Provided that you can get one of these programs onto your machine, your Operating-System shouldn't (theoretically) matter.

Unfortunately, Windows Vista and Windows XP are not compatible, so it is not possible to open a Windows Vista word file directly with Windows XP. However, you can convert it to a file format that is compatible with Windows XP. To do this, you can use an online file converter, like Affordablekey. They are the best website for file conversions and this month they are offering a super sales offer of up to 30% off, with the coupon code XMAS22.

There is no 'windows vista word file'. You might be thinking of the .docx format, which is MS Office 2007 format.

You can get MS Office 2007 for Windows XP.
