Herpes can be passed to a baby if the mother has a break out while the baby is being delivered. It's not passed genetically, heredtiarally, or through the womb.

There are methods to help prevent that from happening.

If the mother has herpes and wants to have a natural delivery then doctors would prescribe her some antiviral medication to take a few weeks before the due date. If she doesn't have any signs or symptoms when she goes into labor then she can have a natural birth with very low risk of passing herpes on.

If the mother doesn't want to take any risks with passing herpes, then she can talk to her doctor about having a c-section. C-sectons completely eliminate the risk of passing herpes onto a baby.

Can your wife have kids with out the child getting herpes?

Yes. Herpes is spread only when the virus is actively shedding, which is commonly seen in symptomatic patients. Herpes is spread by skin contact and thus is usually not transmitted to the child in utero because of this, however there is a small risk of spread during vaginal delivery as the child's body comes into contact with the mothers genitalia. Several studies have shown that the percentage of babies who acquire neonatal herpes from mothers who have no active lesions at delivery is exceedingly small. For preventive measures in women who are symptomatic with herpes infection during pregnancy, antiviral drugs like acyclovir can be given after 36 weeks of gestation to limit viral production and risk of transmission. Cesarean delivery can also prevent vertical transmission of herpes to the child during birth in women with active genital lesions.

Can you get HIV from herpes 2?

It's possible. People with herpes can be more suceptable to getting HIV because it can pass more easily through open sores or blisters. So some one with herpes should abstain from having sex while they have any signs of a break out. But just so you know because some one has genital herpes that doesn't always mean they have HIV too.

How can a 3 yr old get genital herpes?

How do people get Genital Herpes?Herpes can only live outside of the human body for a short period of time; it can survive outside of an infected body for several minutes. It may be long enough to be passed from the contaminated hands of an infected person, to a person who does not yet have the infection. However, although it is possible to pass herpes in this way, it isunlikely for someone to catch herpes this way.Herpes can be spread even when the infected has no visible sores. It can be spread because the person is shedding the virus cells, or their sores are so tiny that they cannot be seen or felt.It is possible for an infected mother to pass this infection on to her child, during the birthing process.Herpes can be spread through a blood transfusion.Herpes can be spread by touching contaminated blood, when you have an open wound.Herpes can be spread by touching a sore, a lesion, or wound of an infected person.Herpes can be transmitted by transplant of an infected organ, to an uninfected organrecipient.Herpes can be spread by contaminated and dirty needles. But the most common way to spread herpes is by sexual intercourse, and herpes can be spread, even by those without symptoms of the infection.Oral sex allows spreading of the 'oral herpes' to the genitals.(It is not considered possible to catch herpes from hot tubs, toilet seats or towels, nor can it be spread by bathing with an infected person.)
