How to write a report Know your teacher. It sounds overused, but people don't generally use it to their full potential. Say what the teacher wants to hear. They identify better with students they think are similar to them, thus almost making them see themselves in you. You must have a malleable personality. Become a different person when you enter a different class room. If a teachers see themselves in you, why would they give themselves an F? Go on with misogynist garbage. Older school teachers cant decipher whether it's a deep philosophical mind or mindless ranting. Be relevant, but discuss mundane things in extreme detail to take up space.

THE THESAURUS IS YOUR BEST FRIEND!!!!! Use this handy-dandy-notebook to repeat yourself without repeating yourself. Your English teacher will adore you for picking the reference book up, and a social studies teacher will be absolutely baffled and have to walk down the hall so that the English teacher can put it in layman's terms.

Research PaperFirst pick your topic. Once you've done this, decide what aspects you want to explore. These choices will guide the directions your research takes.

If, for example, I chose to present a paper on the effects that a positive HIV status has on mental health, I might start with a rough outline. My heading might be "HIV+". Subheadings could include "Depression?" "Anger?" "Suicide?" "Anticipatory Grieving?" "Treatment?"

I'd do an online search for the mental aspects of HIV, age groups and gender affected. I'd do field research. I'd obtain permission from an AIDS hospice to get general information directly from a staff member or even possibly from patients themselves.

I would want to include the various ways to treat the effects and the outcomes of such treatment. I'd include the results of any new research in this area. There would need to be statistics to support all statements made.

When sitting down to write the paper, start with a thesis statement. Mine might be "85% of Those with a Positive HIV Status Suffer from Untreated Depression". Then I would support this with statistics and cite other research. Lay out your information in a logical progression and end with a summary statement or conclusion. "Untreated depression in the majority of HIV patients contributes to general decline." Be sure to include a bibliography.

Write about something you're passionate about.Figure out the link between the class you're taking and your educational and career goals. If you hope to earn an MBA and find yourself stuck in a required Women's Studies class, write about workplace harassment, or the impact of equal opportunity laws. If you are pre-med and have to take anthropology or sociology, write about cultural differences in notions of healing, or about access to health care for members of different classes. If you"re an accounting major… change your major. No, just kidding - if your major is accounting and you have to take literature, write about Franz Kafka (an insurance company clerk by day) or Wallace Stevens (also in insurance - there's a lesson in here somewhere…).
