Most of this can be done easly by someone with basic knowledge. But will need some mechanical knoledge to finish. I did this and it worked. Useing "thermos bottle" stoppers the kind with a trigger to open and close. I put one in each outlet or discharge into the pool (take off the nozzeles) And seal-off the pressure side of the filter, I have a union so I used the same stopper. Now it gets more involved. At the filter I drilled a hole and tapped it to fit a schrader valve, like on some bicycle tires. Use a hand air pump and pump about 5# psi and check all the outlets for leaks tighten stoppers if you find any. The pressure on my filter is about 8# psi. Leave it set for awhile and see if the pressure has dropped. I did the same on the suction side. I pluged the hole in the skimmer and bottom drain. I would not go over the running pressue of the pump. Be very careful and good luck.

Your gauge could very well be bad, many pools that we took care of the gauge on the filter was bad, after backwashing the filter just check any of you lines going back to the pool and your should notice the pressure is a lot higher. A lot of people just check the flow by placing there hand at an outlet to check pressure than by walking over too the filter and reading the pressure, instead of buying a new pressure gauge.
