Its all about finding the printer on the network. Is it attached to a computer on the network? Or is it a network printer? Go to the machine you want to print from / control panel / printers / search for network printer.... and then just locate and add.

Make sure you have enabled printer and sharing on your machines. And watch out for firewalls.

That depends on your printer and what other network equipment you have. I'm assuming that your printer is NOT wireless (WiFi, IR, etc). You still need SOME kind of wireless communication on your network. In my case, I have a wireless router attached to my cable modem. Let's start with this configuration.

From here there are at least three options:

1. I have a desktop computer located near the router and printer. I can install the printer on the desktop and share it. That way it becomes a printserver I can reach remotely. But the desk top has to be on for this to work.

2. Some wireless routers have built-in print servers. You connect your printer directly to the router and can access it through your router.

3. This is what I currently use. An add-on print server. These can be very inexpensive if you shop around or wait for a sale. It basically is a small box that connects between your printer and router. This will allow your printer to have it's own network address. And if you change or upgrade routers, you can keep the print server.

Wireless print servers can make you printer wireless. Make sure you purchase a wireless print server with he proper connection for your printer (USB or ehternet.) The print server will come with a CD and instructions which permits access to the configuration for the wireless to set which wireless network to join with the SSID and the security settings. Once those are set and you are connected to the wireless network, remove the USB or ethernet connection from server to your computer and connect the server to your printer.

if it is hooked up to a machine that is "on" all the time and that machine is on the local network, it will serve as a bridge for the printer to be utilized by the other machines on the same network. the new windows 7 has a wizard that makes this a snap. older OS's get harder and more complex. so really no added products to the system at all. However not the best to leave a machine on for the random print job

or buy a wireless adapter, I use a small apple airport express when i travel. it also lets me print from the USB port.

they have come way down in price you can get them for as low as 20.00.

or what i did at home, buy a new printer,it was only 139 then reduced to 99.00. saves money on the ink, power and is really quit good for the money, HP 6840. good luck

There are so many type and make of printers on the market, that the name and model of your printer would have helped me give more specific instructions! Go to the maker's website and read any user guide or instructions found there. These should guide you through the steps needed to make your wifi printer work.
