The best way to propagate an aloe vera plant is to divide a mature plant that has multiple offsets, or "babies." Re-potting an aloe vera is a delicate task, so be careful not to break the succulent's leaves.

Separate the offsets from the parent plant and re-pot them in a container with good drainage.

Indoors, keep your aloe vera in a sunny window, and don't over-water. Only fertilize once a year, with a slow-release fertilizer like Osmocote, or a liquid fertilizer mixed at one-quarter the manufacturer's recommended strength for houseplants.

Aloe plants can be grown from seed, but for houseplant purposes it is much easier to divide and re-pot than attempt to grow this plant from seed.

You can propagate rose bushes by cuttings. In August or early September, take a stem that is 6-8 inches long. Pick one without a flower. Remove all but the last three leaves. Then in well prepared soil, plant the stem so only the top two inches with the leaves are growing. Water it well. Put a glass jar over it and keep the jar there till next spring.
