Go to Settings then play around there for a bit until you find 'Password'. Press 'Make Password', then set up the digits. Whenever you wake your iPod touch, it has a password.

you go to settings on your ipod and go to general and go to passcode. its only a 4 number combo

There is no iPod Nano Touch. On an iPod Touch you can add a PassCode in the General section of the Settings.
