first you need to find out if the system will tkae a charge. then you need to find out if the system freon is ok. then if all that is good then you need the gauges that will show you that it is actually filling up, and a large bottle of freon,which you will be lucky to find, and hook it up to the a\c line that has the valve on it. It looks like a valve stem on a tire. Make sure it is attached to the A\C because there is one on the fule delivery system as well. THEN you can puncture the can with the supplied mechanism and it should stay attached to the gauges and you should see pressure on one side and little or none on the other and you'll probably have to start the engine and turn oin the A\C and it will show the pressure increasing on the other gauge and then once you have filled it to it's peramiters you are done.
