There is no user information contained in the Yamaha outboard serial number other than identification of the particular engine to which it is attached. All information for the Yamaha is contained in the model number, i.e...... The serial number plate is on the front of the frame below the handlebars, behind the headlight. For 16-digit serial numbers, go to the Yamaha web site. For serial numbers less than 16 digits, take the number to a Yamaha dealer and ask for a search from Yamaha Japan.

A Yamaha dealer should be able to help you, I don't know how to read a frame number.
Most serial numbers are stamped into the right side of the tunnel. There should also be a tag there with the numbers on it also.
The serial numbers on a Abu Garcia reel are read by viewing the label placed on the bottom of the real. It lists an alpha numeric serial number as well as the model number and date of manufacture.

Not as easy as it is to call Yamaha with your serial number and have them tell you exactly what it is.
There is a serial number stamped on the engine (e.g. E112E-****) that may help. Maybe you can contact Yamaha with that number for an age? Or you can just search yz125 on bikepics.com and just find the year that looks like yours.
According to the Yamaha guide, the outbound serial number is located on the label in the clamp bracket. The serial number is helpful when replacing your motor.
