Click on it. 4) a new box will open containing different windows components names with check boxes to their left. 5) search windows media player in that list, 6) when found, check its check box. (if it is not installed, its box will be unchecked, otherwise not). 7) when you check it, press apply or ok. A setup will begin asking for windows CD to insert into the cdrom. Insert windows Cd. 8) when the setup finishes, restart the computer. And that's all. You are now ready to use Windows Media Player. An active window is the window of an application you are using by that time. If you open Google Chrome, Windows Media Player together, but you are operating Google Chrome, then Google Chrome is the active window. If you are using Windows Media Player instead of Google Chrome, then Windows Media Player is the active window.

When you initially install VLC it will ask you during the set up and installation process what file types you want to associate with the program. If you have already installed it remove it and reinstall. However if you wish not to reinstall you can always go to preferences=>File Associations and then in the window which appears check "select all".
