Well, removing a gas tank can be a delicate process, much like painting a happy little tree. First, make sure to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections carefully. take off the gas tank and then find a small chain, put the chain inside the gas tank add some gas and shake it for about 2 minutes, drain the gas and repeat if gas was orange or until u get it clean.

I took the bed off (held on by 6 nuts), and then removed the gas tank, which is held on by 6 nuts). Was pretty simple actually. Was able to remove the pump and clean the tank thoroughly.

Lift back of tank up and pull back and the tank will slide off the pins which hold it. And keep the rubber mount with the gas tank so it won't get lost.
Answerfirst you run all the gas out of the fuel tank. then take off the fuel tank. the fuel pump is located inside the tank. replace. about 220 dollarsum.. is there some kinda lock on the lid on gas tank under the bed cause it wont come off an i dont wanna break it tryin to get it off??don,t remove tank. remove bed bolts and jack it up like a dump bed to get to top of tank to remove pump.
First, remove the seats. Then, close the gas petlecock and remove the gas line from the carburetors. You will see that a single bolt fastens the gas tank at its rear end. Remove this. The front of the tank slides on to fasteners both side of the frame that are encased in rubber mountings. Slide the tank back until it does not rest on these fasteners any more and you can remove it. Before removing the tank it would be a good idea to make sure it is not full of gasoline as it will then be rather heavy.
