There are many different ways to remove the convex mirrors on your OEM mirrors. First, you can heat up the convex mirror with a hair dryer on high for about 30 seconds. Before doing that, be sure the use painter's tape to tape the mirror around your side mirror to prevent it from popping off and shattering! Also, to remove the left-over residue/adhesive on your mirror use some goo-gone/goo-off (if there's a lot) or some windex (for little residue).

If the mirror does not pop or slide off after using the heat from the hair dryer, use some dental floss to "shave" it off. Just gently slide the floss behind the mirror and proceed to remove the adhesive. Tip: Be gentle and patient!

Good luck!

Is a concave or convex mirror used for passenger side mirrors?

Convex mirrors are often used for side mirrors (if the mirror has a note saying "objects in mirror are closer than they appear," it's convex; it may be convex even without such a note).

Why are objects in a car mirror closer than they appear?

There is a plane mirror on the driver's side and a convex mirror on the passenger's side. The reason only the passenger mirror is convex is because you are farther away from it. The angular view provided by farther mirror of the same physical size produces a similarly smaller reflected field of view. The convex mirror provides a larger field of view- one that should be comparable to the closer drivers mirror.

How does convex mirrors affect light?

A convex mirror will always create a virtual image. It will also have a negative magnification. The passenger side mirror in every car is slightly convex. [The one with "Objects in Mirror are closer than they appear"] Also, anti-theft mirrors in convenience stores have these properties.

Why are rear-view and side view mirrors on vehicles convex?

This gives the driver a wider field of vision. Usually only the passenger side mirror is convex. The reflective surface of a convex mirror curves outward like the outer surface of a ball or globe. An object observed by looking at its reflection in a convex mirror appears to be smaller than actual size.
