I have a 2005 Kia rio and have an estimate for around 1700. That's in central FL.
Before you remove the evaporator core from a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville you need to have the air pressure discharged. You will then need to remove the AC unit. You will need to remove some screws before you can remove the evaporator.
In the firewall. Between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment
A person needing to remove the ac evaporator will need to have special equipment to handle the Freon. Then the system will need to be vacuumed because there can not be any dirt or moisture in the system when it is put back together or it will not function.
I would remove parts until the evaporator is exposed then blow it out and/or vacuum it out then spray it down with Lysol.

The AC evaporator is located in the lower Dash.
Begin by removing the air conditioning condenser belt. Remove the air conditioner hoses. Remove the air conditioner condenser retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new air conditioner condenser.
Cleaning the evaporator isn't a regular maintenance item. They're mounted inside a sealed case, and in most cases you have to remove the dash to access it. Sometimes evaporators leak, preventing the AC from working and need to be replaced, but there's really no benefit to cleaning an evaporator on a car.
a starved evaporator.
CAUTION: Some models are equipped with anti-theft-radio make sure you have the activation code before disconnecting battery * Have the AC system discharged * Disconnect negative battery cable * Working from the engine compartment side of the firewall, disconnect the air conditioning lines from the evaporator inlet and outlet pipes. * Inside the car, remove the dash * Remove the glove box supportbracket * Disconnect the thermostatic switch electrical connector and then diconnect the vacuum line between the door and the heater unit * Remove the upper and lower evaporator case mounting bolts * Remove the evaporator unit from the car * Remove the sponge pad which insulates the evaporator inlet and outlet pipes * Cut the foam that lines the opening on both sides of the evaporator case.Unclip the upper and lower evaporator cases and then separate the upper case from the lower case * Detach the thermostatic switch from the evaporator case and detach the thermistor mounting clip from the evaporator unit, and then remove the thermostatic switch and the thermistor as a single assembly * Remove the evaporator unit from the lower case and then remove the expansion valve assemby from the evaporator
