Does acrylic paint stay on clothes?

Yes. If you have ever accidentally spilled acrylic paint onto your clothing you know how difficult it is to remove. If you are planning on using acrylic craft paints to decorate a piece of clothing you may want to look into a "fabric medium" sold in the same places the paint is. Using it will help to keep the paint supple, and reduce cracking and peeling.

If you paint a design on a shirt or other clothing with acrylic paint-can you wash it without washing out the acrylic painted design?

If you use regular acrylic paint it may crack and peel in the wash. Mind you, acrylic is pretty permanent on fabric, as you will know if you've ever accidentally spilled some on your clothing. To be sure of your end result, there is a solution sold in most craft stores (usually in the same place as the acrylic craft paints) that can be mixed with your paints to make it more durable on fabric. I've been using it for years and have had excellent results.
