Linoleum floors turn yellow because of over waxing or wax build up. The old yellow wax will have to be stripped off using a wax stripper. Janitor services do this all the time. Do you have to remove old linoleum before putting down new vinyl tiles?

What is under the linoleum? If it is stuck down well, you can put new tiles on there once. However, if you get to "the bottom of things," you may be able to fill in any dips in the floor and correct any other issues that will make your vinyl tiles look even better. It will take elbow grease and a crowbar and some major adhesive remover to take off the linoleum, but it can be done. If you choose to tile over the linoleum, make sure it is super clean and free of any grease.

How do you clean sap off linoleum?

You can clean sap off of linoleum with regular dish soap. With a solution of dish soap, water, elbow grease, and a scrub brush, you can generally remove the sap from the area. If that doesn't work, try one of the adhesive removers from your local store.

Does vinyl flooring come in sheets?

Vinyl and linoleum are not the same. Vinyl is an artificial product. Linoleum is natural. One of the biggest differences is that linoleum is much more durable. The pattern for linoleum goes all the way through so it lasts longer. The pattern for vinyl is printed on the top so once it wears off, your floor looks old. Most flooring sheets these days are vinyl sheets.

How do you paint a linoleum floor that has rust stains and won't get completely clean no matter how hard you scrub?

YOu would not want to paint a linoleum floor, the paing is simply going to scratch off, probably within a year. Other than commercial grade flooring coatings (for garages, workspaces etc) you would never find a painted vinyl like surface in a home.

How can you remove nail polish from linoleum floor?

If you've already tried standard nail polish remover and it hasn't worked, try using pure acetone. It can be hard to find, but some of the retail beauty supply places carry it. Daub at it with damp cotton balls until you get it off. Do NOT pour the acetone on the linoleum. It can damaged your floor. My son spilled a half bottle of nail polish on my linoleum and I did not see it until It had dried. I used BORAX (COMPLETELY NON TOXIC and you can find it at any grocery storei in the laundry section) and a scrubbing brush. CAME RIGHT UP and did not ruin the finish!!! Acetone can and will damage the finish.

How do I Clean plant sap off linoleum?

Usually a little mineral spirits can pull most tree sap off without causing damage to most finishes. If the floor is sealed with varathane or other newer sealers it won't cause any problem, but if it's a much older floor using old style varnish, it may soften the varnish slightly and you should give it a day before you walk on it.
