Make sure the car is empty and clean. I use vinegar and water mix to wash off areas in the car--including the seats, dash and so on. If the odor remains, go to an auto upholstry shop and ask them to spray their enzyme spray that eliminates odors. It didn't totally remove the sour milk smell from my car (a gallon of milk leaked on the rear seat), but it certainly made it manageable.

If the car won't start, jump it off. While it is running, remove the positive cable from the battery. If the car dies, then your alternator is bad. If it keeps running then you may have a bad battery.
