it is not easy first u want to put a screwdriver or something strong in between the flywheel and make sure its wedged in there good and find the socket u need and u will probly need a pipe of some sort to put over the rachet for more leverage some are pretty difficult to get off so good luck

There is no such thing as a 1987 Villager, I assume you mean a '97. The water pump is in the center of the engine in front, behind and above the crank pulley. To remove it requires that the crank pulley be removed, which may require special tools.
