I professional "Chimney Sweep" can help you. There is an additional advantage of a professional doing this task, if this is in a new-to-you home; they will check your chimney and fireplace for potential problems, such as cracks in the firebox, bad damper, chimney problems inside and out etc. If you are going to do this task there are chimney brushes that can be purchased at "big box stores" just make sure you measure your chimney diameter and know if it is round or square. Make sure you close off the fireplace as there will be significant soot, plastic sheets, taped around the edges of the fireplace will reduce most of the soot generated. Clean the fireplace last. Be careful of the vacuum you use as the soot can travel through and be exhausted into your room, some shop-vac's will cause more problems than you can imagine.
You can remove creosote from metal with a steel brush or a brillo pad. Once it builds up too thickly, though, you may have to remove and replace any metal and brick affected.
"Creasolt" I've never heard of. Creosol is found in creosote. It's a waste product of burning wood in your fireplace. Unless your kids are reaching up into the flu of a fireplace, there is no significant risk. What you should worry about is creosote catching fire in the chimney during a fire in the fireplace. Creosote should be cleaned periodically to prevent excessive buildup which creates a fire hazard.
pine is not good ans it is a softwood and will burn too fast and coat the flue with creosote.

Yes, there are soot and creosote "cleaner" logs. In my opinion, they do not work as well as cleaning a chimney properly with a chimney brush.
It is the ash dump. It allows you to clean the ashes out of the fireplace without having to put them in a bucket and carry them outside. Much more clean.
The best way to clean a limestone fireplace is by using a pH neutral stone cleaner. This cleaner is used with warm water and a sponge.
You can use a fireplace cleaning kit to remove some soot from the base of your chimney.
Answernot recommended due to excessive creosote buildupEdit - Water, not wood type, has the greatest impact on creosote production. If the Gum is properly seasoned (dried to approximately 20% moisture) it will not produce more creosote than any other seasoned wood. And Gum has more energy per volume than some Maples and Ashes. On the other hand, burning any green or wet wood significantly risks excessive creosote buildup, regardless of the wood type.
Is it toxic? No- no more than any other wood- but pine will burn very quickly, and produce high levels of creosote in the chimney.
