I currently have a toenail fungal infection. I used Penlac for awhile and thought I had rid myself of it but it returned. Recently I have been cutting back on the toenails with a very small pointed electrical type plier and using a soft pumice stone to sand the nail. What seems to help in softening the nails, almost dissolving them so that they are easier to cut, is Vaporub. I have nearly taken both toenails off to the root. So, currently I am applying rubbing alcohol, then the Vaporub, and cutting and sanding the nails. I suppose this is a less than sanitary way of debriding, and as I say it would not be for everyone, although the rubbing alcohol is helpful in cleaning the site. So far the effects have been pretty good, but time will tell.

Visit a podiatrist and they will give you the antibiotics you need to kill the fungus. Most likely you will also need to toss your shoes (in the trash--not in the give away bag) since they are infused with the fungus, too. It is not a difficult treatment.
