On the inside of each link there's a small arrow pointing inwards.
Where the arrow points to, on the other side of the inside link there's a small button half hidden by the link.
Use a safety pin to depress this button and slide it slightly in the direction of the arrow.
Then use Pliers to pull out the part that comes out of the bottom of the link.
Remove the link completely by sliding it out.
After that it's easy to put it back together. I'd suggest doing it on the link next to the clasp because it's easy to detach the clasp for this operation.
Steel links can be removed from Festina watch straps by locating the linkage pins on the inside of the watch band. Gently squeeze at the pins and then remove however many links are necessary to make the watch band fit. The replace the pins in the holes.
