If you are talking about the swith under the turn signal switch assembly with the long copper arms, put in the key to release lock mechanism and it should slide out.
A 11/16 socket is needed to remove the 1984 Chevrolet pickup front axle hub assembly. The socket should be a five-point socket.
remove all the screws
you pull it out
Remove the retaining ring from the top of your 1979 Chevrolet C 10 pickup truck ignition switch. Slide the ignition switch out and remove the wiring harness.

Lower tailgate and remove two screws. Pull assembly to the rear and it will release.
There are 2 screws for each tail light, open the tailgate to get to them, one is visible the other is in the catch for the tail gate, then they should pull out with a wiggle...
The buzzer that lets you know the key is in the ignition in a 1989 Chevy Blazer is in the steering column. To access it you would need to remove the steering wheel with a special tool, or remove the ignition assembly. The key makes contact with a tab that activates the buzzer.
You will have to remove the gas tank. Remove the retainer holding the assembly in and remove the unit. It is far less problems if you install the module assembly.
unsrew the main bolt and pull
Remove the battery cable, this is a sure way to get it to shut off.
