The rear seat is not intended to be removed. You can remove the center seat and slide the rear on forward into it's place.

Front wheel drive
To remove the rear seat of a 1997 Mercury Villager minivan, start by locating the release levers or bolts at the base of the seat. If there are bolts, use a socket wrench to unscrew them. For seats with release levers, pull the lever while lifting the seat to disengage it from the mounting brackets. Once released, carefully lift the seat out of the vehicle.

The brakes on the Villager are as straight forward as the brakes on a 1965 Mercury. Only normal brake tools are required.
The switch just pops out of the dashboard.
The rear seat does not come out. The middle seat is removable, after which you can slide the rear one up.
You will need to remove the inner panels to gain access.
