yes I had a 89 it didnt have one but Iv been told that a peg on the speedo on 88 to 94 had a sensor but if the peg got broke off they would keep going.That maybe BS not sure but my 89 with that white bar thing for a speedo went passed 85mph to the 20mph and I back out(big pussy)I have a 95 chev first year of the newer dash.Im the sec ower of it and my truck has all the bells n whistles but it dies at around 100mph.you may try a jet chip,hyper tech chip one of those
