first remove the rear fascia then remove the tail lamp panel to gain access to the tailamps. the service manual claims that there is a panel that can be removed from the interior on my 2000 gts except there is no removable panels. Maybe on the r/t model. good luck

The headlamps are an assembly, and the lenses/covers can not be removed.
# Release decklid latch and open decklid. # Remove trunk lining from rear closure panel as necessary to gain access to tail lamp fasteners. # Remove nuts attaching tail lamp to rear closure panel. # Remove tail lamp from rear closure panel. # Remove socket(s) from tail lamp unit. # Pull lamp from socket.
Lower the tailgate. Remove the two screws on the inside to the side of the lamp assembly with an torx wrench. The tail lamp assembly will pop out. Remove the four screws on the backside of the tail lamp with a Phillips head screwdriver. You now have access to the bulbs.
lower the tailgate, remove the two screws that look like they go into the side of the light, and pull the lamp out, the opposite side of the light is fastened with friction clips so you may have to tugg a little.
Look inside the trunk. Have to remove the wing nuts.
Remove the connector from the back of your 1997 VW Jetta side marker lamp. Take hold of the side marker lamp, push in and turn at the same time. The lamp will come out. Reverse the process to install the new side marker lamp.
The lens is only available as the whole fog lamp. You have to remove the bumper to replace it.
Raise the headlights. Remove the bezel from around the head lamp by removing the three screws and carefully slide the bezel out, this will give you barely enough room to get your arm in there to remove the turn signal lamp.
I don't know if the 1997 is the same as the 1993, but here is the procedure from the 1993 manual: 1. Remove the two screws from the surface of the lens. 2. After removing the screws, remove the lamp assembly. 3. Remove the socket by rotating it 45 degrees and pulling it out of the lamp that contains the burned-out bulb and replace the bulb. To replace/install the stoplamp: 1. Push the bulb socket into the lamp assembly and rotate 45 degrees. 2. Position the lamp assembly on the vehicle. 3. Secure with two screws.
take the wheel off and remove the inner mud guard replace lamp and put it back together. kit
You need to remove the bumper assy in order to access the Head lamp, also be sure to by all fender covers clips before you do that.
