They are a pain to get out. I stand mine up on the grab bar, take out the motor mount bolts then use a engine lift to pull the front end a little higher, so there is more room to get it out. You have to twist & turn the starter all different directions but it will squeeze out of there.

My starter was doing the same thing so I took it out & cleaned it real good & works like a champ now. Suzuki designed the front Engine mount to be removed for the Starter to be Serviced. It takes little to no time at all to do so.It appears the just the slightest extended of time with the starter engaged and the Brushes glaze over and therefore lack countinuity,I trimed down a piece of emery paper and rapped it around the commutators and reshaped the brushes and it worked perfect.The only draw back I see is that there isa no simple way to keep the brushes pinned back prior to installing the armature.
