When restoring a vehicle that originally had a hood ornament, adding the hood ornament will increase its value. However, if no hood ornament was originally on the vehicle, then adding one typically will not increase the car's value.
you will need to pop the hood and under the hood ornament there is a plastic nut, should be a 24mm deep weel socket that fits it. unscrew the nut and let the hood down. the top side of the leaper (hood ornament) had doulbel sided tape at the bottom where it connects to the hood. peel off the ornament with a plastic body trim tool. you could use a screwdriver (flat blade) but be careful on the paint. once it is off clean the glue off the hood with either goo gone or something similar. to reinstall it reverse the process. GOOD LUCK!

The hood onament changed over the years. They used birds, airplanes, and shields. Look it up on a hood ornament website.
Open the hood and identify the 2 small galvanized metal tabs on either side of the spring on the underside of the ornament base. They will be at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions. Grasp one with a pliers and rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise (to 3 and 9 o'clock). Push the old ornament upwards through the hood. Twist the tabs on the new ornament to 3 and 9 o'clock, place through the hole in the hood and turn the tabs back to 6 and 12 o'clock.
