Is the engine a 3.1? If so it is easist to remove the crossover pipe, then the thermostat housing.

Depends on what size engine you have, and what year of Grand Am you have. Mine is a 1996 with a 2.4L engine. So my thermostat is located in the bottom radiator hose, where it goes into the water pump.

3.1L? read the instructions under how to change on a 1996 cutlass...its the same motor and in the same place and is changed the same way. that's the nice thing about GM. .
