you have to drop the tank. there are 2 nuts holdings the gas tank straps

towards the rear end of the straps. if you are lucky they will come off

easy. otherwise you have to pull the back seat and drill them out.

- make sure the battery negative or positive terminal is disconnected.

- drain fuel or run car to near empty before removing.

- jack up car a little in front and higher in back. use jack stands or something

safe to support rear end of car, use blocks or whatever on front of car.

- you will have to remove the muffler system from under the fuel tank to

drop the tank. disconnect at catalytic converter or wherever you prefer.

- also you will probably have to move the fuel filter out of the way.

*** ONCE THIS IS DONE then the following

- support gas tank with jack centered below fuel tank.

- disconnect filler neck by removing screws inside gas cap housing.

- disconnect fuel lines and plug with something.

there are 3 lines you will need to disconnect.

1) fuel pump feed line

2) fuel return line

3) fuel vent line

- disconnect electrical wiring

1) fuel pump electric connection at gas tank

2) fuel gauge sending unit at gas tank

- now you probably want to remove the rear passenger side tire so when

you drop the tank you will be able to maneuver the filler neck while

dropping the tank.

- disconnect gas tank straps and drop tank slowly while keeping an eye

on the filler neck.

having an extra pairs of hands from someone helps to balance the

tank on the jack while lowering. if you can have someone help you

lower the tank.

- once tank is on ground , maneuver it out from under car.

- I usually fill the tank with water before removing fuel pump or sending

unit because gasoline is extremely dangerous while working on with open

ports on the tank.

****** ALSO YOU HAVE TO USE A BRASS PUNCH TO REMOVE THE

LOCK RINGS SO THERE ARE NO SPARKS CREATED WHILE REMOVING

THE LOCK RINGS. if you fill the tank with water then there is

far less possibility of having any problems.

- you can now service your gas tank.

- flush it a couple times with water and a little soap to get the fumes out

if you so desire. the last flush should be with water only. if you did

a good job of draining the tank before you started working on it then

there shouldn't be a lot of fumes when you fill it with water the first time.

- it's up to you but be careful, especially if you are working under the

car without a lift.

- make sure tank is dry and clean before you reinstall.

- check the filler neck seal also to make sure it is not broken or torn.

- you can get filler neck seals ( called gromets ) on ebay or napa.

- any way GOOD LUCK.
