In my 02 Aztek, I turn the headlight knob (on the dash left of the steering wheel, above your left knee) clockwise to get the interior lights to come on.

you can't replace the lights they are built in to the control head.you must replace the entire hvac control
take it to autozone if u buy it they may replace it for u

Left end of the instrument panel. Open the drivers door, look about armrest height for the fuse panel cover. Removing fuse number 34 should disable the lights. You'll have to see if you can live with whatever else may loose power.

If The lights stay on all the time when the car is off, you probably need to replace auto headlight relay.
This is simple. I call it American manufacturing. No attention to detail, carelessness and sleeping on the job.
Remove the socket from the rear of the fixture, remove faulty bulb from socket and replace with good bulb and replace socket in fixture. Fini!
Thermostat sticking. Replace thermostat and gasket.
