If you have the 5.0 or 5.7 liter take it to autozone and find out which bank/side is bad. bank 1 is drivers side, bank 2 is passenger, theres 4 total, 2 on each side in nearly same locations, 1 up by exaughst manifold each side, and 1 down by converter each side
It will have at least two. Located one each in both of the exhaust manifolds. You may have a third one just past the catalytic converter. It takes a special socket. Check with your auto parts store.
1 sensor is under radiator on passenger side. 2 more back by cat. Autozone has free rental of tool to remove the sensors. Takes 30-40 minutes for all 3.
First locate the sensor(s) - there may be multiple O2 sensors on a vehicle. O2 sensors are normally mounted on the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipe itself - usually one before and one after the cataletic convertor. A Haines or Chilton's manual (which will show the sensor location(s))for your vehicle should be available at any local auto supply store.
When you buy the oxygen sensor, you should also buy an oxygen sensor installation/removal socket (about $10-12) and a tube of anti-seize compound ($2.50). This 3/8" drive socket has a special cutout on the side to allow for the wiring connections.
Once the sensor(s) have been located and the replacement part(s) are in hand, warm up the engine and then shut it down. CAUTION! you will be working on a hot exhaust system - WEAR GLOVES - AND BE CAREFULL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF. The reason for warming up the engine is to get the sensor mounting area good and hot which will make it expand a little and thus make it easier to remove the sensor. You can probably do this with a cold engine but I assume it will make things a tad harder.
Remove the negative battery terminal, disconnect the wiring from the sensor(s) and then remove the sensor(s) using the previously mentioned socket. Spread a little anti-seize compound on the threads on the new sensor - being carefull not to gunk up the end of the sensor. Screw in the new sensor, re-connect the sensor wiring and the negative battery terminal. Bang - Zoom Your'e Done.
on 7th gen civc's (2001-2005) they are simply uncouple (five pole electrical clips) and unscrew with a crescent wrench (around a 23mm that i don't have) the screw in a new one and reconnect they are pretty much all the same on all vehicles they can be simple ones with a s little as two wires or as complex as eight or ten, but they are all prety much the sae for install and removal. unplug unscrew replace. There are usually -4- sensors, all in the forward section of the exhaust system, around the catalitic converters. Unhook the single wire, unscrew the sensor using a deep well socket, and replace it. Will probably be really tight fit, so some penetrating oil will help.
You unscrew it and take it out. It may require a special slotted socket. Or if there's room, you could break the top off and use a regular socket or box end wrench. Make sure the new one has anti-seize compound on it.
To start with Ford has a habit of splitting things up in the middle of years like this, meaning there locations.Remember since your vehicle is a later model with probably two catalytic converters you should have four o2 sensors .Two in front of the converters which are the upstream ,and two in the back which or the down stream .First spray them with a good penetrating oil a couple of time because of the rust .2ND unplug the the wire pig tail this will be fun ,make sure you wear safety glasses to keep sand and rust out of your eyes. Most of the time a very small screw driver with a 1/8 inch wide blade to unsnap the plug wile pulling the harness works best.Once this is done you can use a good line wrench/six point /or a oxygen sensor tool to remove it .Reverse to install adding a never seize compound to the thread ,many new ones come with it on them now.BUT remember put a scanner on the car first and ck out if the o2 sensor is bad and which one /it will save you a lot of time money and work ,good luck no name just like to help
The 2002 VW oxygen sensor is quite simple to replace. Remove the wiring harness. The oxygen sensor will simply pull out.
pay a good mechanic
Located on catalytic converter
drivers side second one back by transmission
They are screewed into the exhaust system / pipes. There about 4 inches long and have a electrical wire in the end of them.
you can have a professional do it.
A 1997 Dodge with a Cummins diesel does not have an oxygen sensor.A 1997 Dodge with a Cummins diesel does not have an oxygen sensor.
its screwed into the exhaust manifold, undo wire and unscrew at manifold.
They are screewed into the exhaust pipes, They are about 4 inches long and have an electrical connector pluged into the end of them. I think there is 2 or more on that year. There will not be any after the muffler.
The only fix is to replace it. If you are mechanicly inclined, this is a doable deal. Before you replace the sensor you should check the wiring for resistance you can use a volt/ohms meter (vom) and test the continuity of the wiring to the sensor.
The 1997 Ford Aerostar oxygen sensor is screwed into the exhaust pipe. It is about even with the rear of the oil pan.
it is under the roter cap.
The upstream heated oxygen sensor is located ahead of the catalytic converter The downstream heated oxygen sensor is located behind the converter
