If your manual is like mine it will conveniently fail to mention that there are TWO fixings to release - firstly the obvious one on the exterior of the casing, secondly there is a thumb screw underneath the unit which you can access through the boot. After that the unit should lift out easily and you simply remove the old bulb and fit the new one.
