If it's a gasoline engine, not a diesel, remove the fuel tank. It's inside the fuel tank. If you have a gasoline engine and it's fuel injected then you will have a low pressure pump in the gas tank itself and a high pressure pump directly below the driver's floorboard mounted to the frame. That's the way it is on my fuel injected 1985 F-150. You may need to determine if you have fuel injection or not then the job of replacing the high pressure pump is just a matter of a few bolts, wires, fuel lines, and a new high pressure pump. The gas tank pump is quite a lot harder to replace! It is best to have the low pressure pump in the tank replaced by qualified service personel to avoid puncturing the tank and replacing with incorrect parts.
